Add-on aircraft for FSX

Hi,

I've had some less than pleasurable experiences with freeware add-on aircraft. There may be simple fixes for some of the problems but I'm not knowledeable enough to know what they are. Also, some aircraft lack features, such as a virtual cockpit, that I don't care to do without.

Does anyone know of any source of reviews that give comprehensive evaluations? If so,downloading aircraft that don't meet expectations could be avoided.

Recent downloads that I've been very satisfied with include these:

L19_FSX.zip - Cessna model 305C , L-19(O-1) "Bird Dog" by Massimo Taccoli

mig15bis.zip - Mig 15 by "Oldliner52"

And multiple aircraft by Jens B. Kristensen including, but certainly not limited to, his F84G Thunderjet (f84g_v11.zip).

Well, we've been working on the aircraft list, which is meant to be a list for people who are looking for freeware or payware aircraft:

https://www.flightsimulatorguide.com/dow ... ftlist.htm

But, the reviews are very small and not a comprehensive evaluation. For that, there are 2 websites with in dept reviews:

https://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main ... rev-ca.htm

https://www.avsim.com/pages/content.shtml

But I still recommand you take a look at our aircraft list, because the list can be very informative, features like a virtual cockpit, behaviour of the aircraft, effectiveness of the rudder could be very relevant. All of the aircraft are tested in FSX as well. Most of the aircraft in the aircraft list are reviewed on the 2 websites that I've mentioned. The aircraft list is permanently under construction, more aircraft will be added on regular basis. So I would suggest to check it again after some time.

Looking forward to the expanded listing!

Hi Chris,

As I wasn't particularly interested in airliners I didn't pay too much attention to your list as it stands. I think it's a great idea.

While adding aircraft to FSX I was able to solve several problems by dumb luck as much as anything else.

For example:

A P51 Mustang I added had the sound aliased to the DeHavilland Comet which I didn't have installed. I copied the DeHavilland Comet from FS9 to FSX per the Guide on this site and all was well.

A Blue angels F18 I added had the eyepoint set at what appeared to be the top of the canopy. By snooping around in a .cfg file I found a reference to eyepoint followed by several numbers; I reduced the integer part of one of the numbers by "1" and restarted FSX to see what effect this had, if any, and the view was as close to perfect as I could determine. Dumb luck.

I'm sure others have, likewise, found solutions to problems they've had.

A place to share and take advantage of this knowledge would be very helpful.

Thanks so much for the great site.

Jim

Well, sometimes, dumb luck works and sometimes it takes days to find someting out. But everything that might be relevant for people to know will be added to this website

Hi there, I hope someone can help. I am having a lot of trouble adding aircraft from sites and adding them to FSX. The procedure seems different from Cent of Flight, and the foldering system is too (no aircraft folder for e.g) can anyone offer some guidelines to help me? thanks.
