The Boeing 747 is a long-range, wide body commercial passenger jet aircraft. The Boeing 747-400 was launched in 1985 and entered service in 1989. The -400 version introduced improvements like winglets, tail fuel tanks, new more powerful and fuel efficient engines, new interior, and new glass cockpit with six large CRT displays. The stretched upper deck that was introduced with the -300 version was standard for the passenger and combi variants, while the new cargo version kept the smaller upper deck, which was useless in freighter configuration as no cargo is placed on this deck.
Project Open Sky is a freeware aircraft developer group that has been around for some time. They developed many aircraft models for FS2002 and FS2004, mostly Boeing aircraft. Their Boeing 747-400 is a highly detailed representation of its real world counterpart. A few of the features are:
fully animated control surfaces,
opening passenger and cargo doors,
dynamic flexing wings, reflective cockpit windows and more. There are various models available like GE, RR or PW engine variants and passenger, cargo and combi variants.
The flight dynamics seem ok, but the fuel/payload may be off with some models. It's best the check the weight before you start a flight, if the aircraft is too heavy, there is a risk of a tailstrike or crashing at the end of the runway. Due to the wingflex, the strobe lights are floating above the wings when the aircraft is on the ground. Many liveries are available on the Project Open Sky website but more can be downloaded from websites like AVSIM. |

apart from the lack of dynamic shine and floating strobes, i w'd say its one of the best 744s designed in the flightsim community..
I agree, it's the best freeware 747-400, too bad the flight dynamics are not that realistic.
