First of all I want to thank you for the wonderful site. It’s very organized and a must-see for all flightsimmers. I have a few general questions I hope you can answer.
I’ve been using fsx for over 2 years now. While there have been some pretty good addons released, it just isn’t the same frequency as fs2004. The main issue for me, however, is that my system is just not good enough for fsx + addons. So I'm contemplating rolling back to fs2004. There are a few addons I have (aircraft + scenery) that are “fsx-only”, do you think these will work in fs2004 (generally speaking)? Specifically, I’ve heard fsx .dll gauges are the same as fs2004 .gau gauges and renaming them can make them work, is this true? In addition, as you know fsx-native aircraft have separate .mdl files for the exterior and interior, will fs2004 display these aircraft? Converting from dds to bmp textures is not a problem, but I hope fs2004 can display the models in the first place! Also, do you know any incompatibilities with fsx-native scenery besides photoscenery (which I already know doesn’t work) in fs2004? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your compliments. FSX aircraft models won't work in FS2004, there are too much differences. I am not sure about the scenery...

I'm sure you will, many new add-ons are still developed for FS2004 as well.
