Aerosim Saab 340B/BWT

review

The Saab 340, originally designated as the SF340, is a twin-engined, short to medium range, turboprop airliner produced in Linkping, Sweden. The prototype first flew on 25 January 1983, while the first production aircraft flew in March 1984. The 340B introduced more powerful engines with improved hot and high performance, wider horizontal stabilizers, a higher max takeoff weight and more range. The 340B is powered by two General Electric CT7-9B turboprop engines and can carry 30-36 passengers over a distance of 935 nm (1730 km). Due to lack of sales and profitibility, the production of all 340 models ended in 1999, and Saab ceased all civil aircraft production in 2005.

Aerosim is a Japanese developer of various MS Flight Simulator products. Many classic aircraft are available in special packages. Their Saab 340B and 340BWT are part of the Prop-Liners Collections package. Besides the Saab 340B/BWT, the package also contains the DHC-6 Twin Otter and the Bombardier de Havilland Canada DHC-8 Q400.

Like their other products, Aerosim's Prop-Liners Collections package can be considered 'light' payware, because their aircraft doesn't have advanced systems programming. Their Saab 340 is a frame rate friendly model that looks very good actually. Only four liveries are included: For the 340B the Saab house livery and Northwest Airlink, for the 340BWT American Eagle and British Airways. The panel and the virtual cockpit are simple. All the basic functions are present, but expect nothing more. The textures in the virtual cockpit are low resolution and look a bit blurry, especially on high resolution monitors. Also, only a few handles and switches are clickable. The engine sound doesn't resemble a turboprop, they sound more like the default Cessna 172.
